This was my first debate experience, so a learning experience in itself. The online piece of the debate was quite ok for me, as after 4 years of online learning this was just a new experience in a familiar environment. Debating (as well as sharing our trends papers) was an excellent way to explore current trends and issues in health care. Allowing the participants to have some say in topics created diversity in the course content, allowing us all to learn about issues that we may have never have been aware of. Great way to facilitate learning. I do admit that the debate would have been more challenging for those defending a subject that they may not agree with. Although I think our perspectives were broadened by both sides. As you have said, the purpose of the debates was not to win, but to learn. Finally, I am ever amazed at the power of facilitating learning. How active participation in seeking and understanding knowledge has much greater impact then didactic listening.
