This Concept Map, created with IHMC CmapTools, has information related to: 12.5 Sustainable Environment(Heng Ann Nie 1M1S04), 12.5 Conservation and management Man's effort to achieve progress in various fields to improve the quality of life. Aims:To maintain &enhance ourforest systems for the benefit of the present &future generatons of living organism. Conservation of biodiversity in Malaysia, Conservation of biodiversity in Malaysia types of conservation Ex Situ conservation To maintain species outside their original habitats in facilities. -Seed genebanks are considered safe&cost effective for seed producing crop species. -Field &in itro genebanks are particularly useful for species with seeds that are difficult to store Eg:PORIM ,national zoo,Mardi, Botanical Garden ,FRIM&Rimba Ilmu UM, Conservation of biodiversity in Malaysia types of conservation In situ conservation To maintain plants and animals in their original habitats so can protect biological diversity. Function:To sustain breeding populatons of flora and fauna. Reasons-Several important habitats are under-represented. -Conservation efforts of individual species targeted towards large some extent birds. -Conservation is given low priority in existing land-use policies resulting in competition for land utilization. -Common marine&terrestrial biological resources lck adequate regional& international cooperation in their conservation & management. Eg:National State parks ,Wildlife Reserves &Marine park, 12.5 Conservation and management Man's effort to achieve progress in various fields to improve the quality of life. Aims:To maintain &enhance ourforest systems for the benefit of the present &future generatons of living organism. ???? Threat of extinction Leatherback turtle-The largest turle in the world.(lived for 150 million years. Major treats:Eggs trade, incidental cpture in fishing gear, low hatching percentage &sea pollution. Milky stork:Predominantly coastal resident in Indonesia&Malaysa inhabiting mangroves and adjacent, less saline swamps Major treats:mangrove clearance due to large -scale fish farms&tidal rice cultivation&logging, hunt for chicks&eggs for food &domestican. Slipper orchid:Fund in every habitat from coastal mangrove forests to te highest mountain peaks. Major treats: Disturbance/modification of their habitat/forest destrustion, commercial collection&damage/predation from grazing animals., 12.5 Conservation and management Man's effort to achieve progress in various fields to improve the quality of life. Aims:To maintain &enhance ourforest systems for the benefit of the present &future generatons of living organism. ???? sustainable fishery 1)Quotas the amount of fish that each counttry is allowed to catch. 2)Minimum mesh size A system of rehabilitation ,protection, and conservation of river. Eg:Tagal System in Sabah.
