A Soil
Carbon Accounting and Management System for Emissions Trading.
Soil Management Collaborative Research Support Program. Special
Publication, SM CRSP 2002-4, University of Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaii.
This monograph outlines concepts and procedures needed to support the
creation of carbon contracts and projects for farmers, particularly
for farmers in developing countries where incentives to adopt
sustainable farming practices are needed most. The authors identify
three steps to creating carbon contracts (1) define the contract or
project areas for soil carbon sequestration, (2) estimate potential
for soil C sequestration, and (3) verify compliance with contracts.
